Brad Williams is an Investment Advisor Representative specializing in Retiree and Estate Planning. He has been an independent financial services representative and president/CEO of Brad Williams Financial Services, LLC since 1987. His wife Robin and daughter Bonnie work with him marketing the company, and coordinating and planning his many free educational seminars and events around town.
In addition to owning his own company, he is a two-time past president and active member of Huntsville’s oldest and most well established Business Networking International (BNI) affiliate, Heritage BNI; a member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors; and member of the Board of Advisors of Senior Market Advisor magazine. His company, Brad Williams Financial Services has an A+ rating as a member of the Huntsville Better Business Bureau.
From Corporate Upstart to Independent Financial Advisor
In 1979, Brad Williams was a part-time clerk and package handler on a conveyor line for a small, start-up, package delivery company. By the mid-1980s, he had worked his way up the corporate ladder into an operations manager position in Birmingham, AL. Having made enough money by age 29 to seek advice from a financial advisor about his long-term financial goals, he found a mentor in his financial planner who believed Brad had a natural instinct for the business.
Today, that “little start-up” is Federal Express, and in spite of being drawn to the strategic aspects of investment and retirement planning, Brad admits he “bled purple and orange” at the time. However, after a couple of years, Fed Ex began maturing into a huge company and Brad began having his own growing pains. Under constant coercion from his financial mentor to join him as a financial advisor, Brad decided a career move might give him more independence.
In 1987, still single at the time, Brad decided that if there was ever a time to do something crazy with his life this was probably the time to do it. He left his salaried corporate job with Fed Ex to embrace a commissioned job as an independent financial services representative, and he never looked back.
Advice From a Mentor
It didn’t take long to realize that the rules and regulations in the financial services industry were ever changing, and that in order to survive, and most especially to succeed, he was going to have to be willing to change with it.
“I received advice from my first boss that not only helped my career through the years, but advice that has helped me help my clients over the years as well,” Brad says. “He said, ‘Brad, when you look back over the first twenty years of your career, make sure you are providing twenty years of financial planning experience, and not one year of financial planning experience, twenty times.”
Inspired by that advice, Brad made the commitment to participate in educational opportunities and training as often as possible. This willingness to stay on top of the changing atmosphere of his industry is something that helps to educate his clients as well.
In keeping it all in the family, Brad and Robin’s daughter Bonnie Williams works part-time as an administrative assistant and staff photographer, covering the many seminars and workshops Brad Williams Financial Services hosts every month.
A graduate of Calhoun Community College, Bonnie followed her mother’s example as a successful beauty consultant with Mary Kay, and has built strong sales and customer service skills over the past three years working in retail.
Whether it is snapping pictures or answering customer questions and answering the phones, Bonnie is the most recent addition to the Brad Williams team.
Client Services Associate
Brad Williams Financial Services requires a strong and experienced manager to oversee compliance issues within the financial industry; manage and coordinate the massive amount of paperwork required by customers and the industry alike; and to communicate with customers about their most personal financial matters. With a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Athens State; 26 years as a human resources and business manager in the manufacturing and insurance industries; Brenda has spent the past 10 years in the financial services industry, first with Mutual Savings Life Insurance in Decatur, and currently with Brad Williams Financial Services the past three years.
Marketing Director/Event Planner
Who better than a two-car winning Mary Kay Cosmetics Director to manage and coordinate sales and marketing strategies for Brad Williams Financial Services? Having managed a staff of over 30 representatives, Robin is astute at planning events and seminars, and reaching out to those people who need professional help and quality financial advice.
Robin Williams recently joined her husband’s financial services team while still maintaining a small Mary Kay business of her own. With her sales and marketing background, she knows it is important to appeal to upcoming retirees who may have their money, assets, and investments scattered to the four corners of the financial spectrum, and that makes her a unique asset to the Brad Williams financial “family” — in more ways than one!
